Engine control unit (ECU) is the heart of every modern vehicle on the road today, this computer is responsible for the complex timing needed to fire the plugs and open the nozzles, it also monitors the vehicle health status and report using diagnostic trouble code (DTC) when it find any error.
Just like every electronic in the market, sometimes this workhorse gets bad. Now this brings us to the topic of this article, technicians will always order for a replacement as it will get the vehicle out of the workshop faster, what if I tell you that there are other options although not for non techy guys.
ECU just like every electronic have different component that makes up the system and when it gets bad it’s not the entire component that gets bad except in a case of fire. However with a background in electronics it’s possible to open a dead ECU and trace the fault and get it fixed instead of purchasing a new one.
